DIXIE GILBERT PIGFORD

2009 Outstanding Life Member of the Year

Each year the Meridian Junior Auxiliary honors an outstanding Life Associate Member.  This year we are honoring Dixie Gilbert Pigford.

Dixie joined the Junior Auxiliary as a provisional member in 1948.  She was Recording Secretary during 1950-1951 and served as President from 1953-1954.  In 1958, she was crowned the first queen of the Junior Auxiliary Mardi Gras Ball.

Dixie was born and raised in Meridian.  In 1940, she married Jack Pigford and they co-owned and operated Pigford Menswear Center and Pigford Real Estate Loans in Meridian for 38 years.  She has three children:  Lynn Martin of Fairhope, AL; Bob Pigford of Meridian; and Jack Pigford, Jr. of Monroe, LA.  She has 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Dixie is an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.  She taught Sunday School and was a member fo the Women of the Church who put on fundraisers to benefit the church and the community.  She also served on the church's needlepoint committee that needlepointed the kneelers and chair seats in the sanctuary of the church.

It is with great pleasure that the Junior Auxiliary recognizes Dixie Pigford as Outstanding Life Member of the Year.
