Each year the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian honors a humanitarian of the year. This year we have chosen to honor Dr. Ronnye Purvis for all the work he is doing to better our community.
Dr. Ronnye Purvis earned his M.D. degree from the Univerisity of Wisconsin Medical School in Milwaukee. He later completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Purvis is board certified and serves as the owner/director of The Purvis Clinic here in Meridian. Professional memberships include the Mississippi Board of Ob/Gyn Advisory Commission, National Medical Association, American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetrics, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and Gideons International. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Meridian Community College and is an Adopt-a-school sponsor for Witherspoon Elementary. In 2008, he raised more than $3000 for the School Uniform Program. He is also an avid supporter for the Boys and Girls Club. Each year, Dr. Purvis hosts a birthday party for all of the children he has delivered. He was named the Meridian Star's Reader's Choice Doctor of the Year in 1999 and 2007 and he was voted Man of the Year in 2001 and 2007. In 2001, he was featured in an article in Diversions Magazine entitled "Doctors who Volunteer".
Dr. Purvis improves and enhances the quality of life for the people of Meridian and Lauderdale County.
